Crossroads
WHAT IS?
The Crossroads International Short Film Festival, which will take place for the 18th time this year, is a short film competition and festival aiming to bring the short films of filmmakers on the theme of ‘Reducing Inequalities’ to the big screen. Within the festival, seminars, panels, discussions, film screenings, and workshops are organized. In the competition section, fictional and documentary short films compete, touching on the 10th goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which is “Reducing Inequalities,” specifically addressing the theme of “Reducing Discrimination Against Women and Girls.” The directors of these films are supported with various awards.
Reduced Inequalities
The 2023 Gender Equality Status Report emphasizes that urgent and decisive actions are an inevitable necessity to achieve gender equality. While women and girls continue to be disproportionately affected by socio-economic impacts, the loss of jobs and livelihoods brings along the difficulty of coping with the increasing burden of education deviation and unpaid care work.
Addressing and rectifying this situation will depend on various strategies that focus on all dimensions of intervention and recovery, in addition to sensitive laws, policies, and budgeting aimed at women and girls.
Peace is Possible
With its theme centered on “Peace is Possible,” aligning with one of the United Nations’ sustainability criteria, the festival seeks to foster cultural unity based on shared values. It actively supports initiatives that promote friendship and trust, leveraging the power of film to engage the global community and underscore the importance of tolerance and peace.
This festival is a project of the JCI İstanbul, a non-profit organization affiliated with Junior Chamber International. This non-profit organization holds the esteemed status of being recognized as a sister organization by the United Nations, as well as by several other influential associations, including the Council of Europe and Euro Chambers.
