The prestigious Crossroads International Short Film Festival, now in its 17th year, is a competition and festival aimed at displaying the imaginative works of short filmmakers who explore the issue of "Sustainable Cities and Communities" through their cinematic endeavours.
3.5 billion people, or 50% of the world's population, live in cities. This figure will rise even further. Many people's futures lie in cities. Cities are where we must look for answers to the enormous issues that face humanity, such as poverty, climate change, healthcare, and education.
Everyone will eventually be impacted by these issues. Inequalities cause civil unrest and a breakdown in trust, while environmental pollution endangers people's health, livelihoods, and economies. This eventually runs the risk of upsetting everyone's daily routines.
With its theme centered on "Peace is Possible," aligning with one of the United Nations' sustainability criteria, the festival seeks to foster cultural unity based on shared values. It actively supports initiatives that promote friendship and trust, leveraging the power of film to engage the global community and underscore the importance of tolerance and peace.
This festival is a project of the JCI İstanbul, a non-profit organization affiliated with Junior Chamber International. This non-profit organization holds the esteemed status of being recognized as a sister organization by the United Nations, as well as by several other influential associations, including the Council of Europe and Euro Chambers.
